• The Red Storm is off to a 4-1-3 start on the season, including posting an unbeaten, 0-0-3 slate through its last three contests. St. John's is coming off a 0-0 double-overtime tie in its BIG EAST opener against Syracuse on Sept. 19 and a 1-1 double overtime tie with Princeton on Sept. 21.

A Look At The Competition • St. John's will face West Virginia for the 13th time in history. The Mountaineers hold the lead in the all-time series 8-2-2, and have won eight of the last nine contests. WVU is currently ranked No. 11 in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll and boasts a 6-1-2, 1-0-0 BIG EAST record. The Mountaineers are unbeaten through their last seven contests and won their league opener against Pittsburgh, 4-0, on Sept. 18. Megan Mischler is the team's offensive leader with four goals, and Deana Everrett is second with three goals and an assist.
• The Red Storm and Panthers meet for the ninth time in history. St. John's holds the series record 5-1-2 and has posted a 3-0-1 slate over the last four meetings. The Panthers come into the weekend with a 3-6-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST record and have lost their last three contests, including its league opener with West Virginia, 4-0. Katelyn Ruhe leads the way for the Pitt offense with four goals and an assist for nine points. Ashley Happel is second in scoring with three goals and an assist for seven points.
It's All About The "D" • The Red Storm defense has been strong for the team this season, only allowing two goals in 780:00 minutes. The three season-opening shutouts mark the first time in history the Red Storm has held its opponent scoreless through its first three contests. Overall, the team has posted six shutouts and is three away from tying the school record of nine.
Russell Making A Name For Herself • Freshman goalkeeper Kristin Russell is ranked No. 1 in the nation in goals against average and save percentage. Russell has only allowed one goal in eight games this season, tallying a .122 goals against average and a save percentage of .978. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native has received three honors this year, as she was a two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honoree and was a TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week selection.
St. John's Ranked Among The Best • The St. John's defense has been strong this season allowing only two goals while posting six shutouts in eight games played. Through Sept. 21 games, the Red Storm has posted a .958 save percentage, which is the best in the country. In addition, the team's .231 goals against average and .750 save percentage is the third best among Division I women's programs.
