Women's Soccer Set To Face No. 4/7 Notre Dame In BIG EAST Semifinals

• The game will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports. Ann Schatz will call the action while Tammy Blackburn will provide color commentary. This is the first televised game of the year for the Red Storm.

• The winner of the contest will advance to the championship game held on Sunday at noon and will face the winner of the Marquette/West Virginia semifinal game.
A Look At The Competition • St. John's and Notre Dame meet for the 12th time in history, with the Fighting Irish leading the series 11-0. The neutral site meeting is the first between the teams.
• The Fighting Irish enter the contest with a 15-3-1 record, including a 12-0-1 slate through its last 13 games. Notre Dame, who concluded BIG EAST action unbeaten with a 10-0-1 mark, has shut out its last four opponents.
• Sophomore Melissa Henderson leads the team with 11 goals and 24 points, including a hat trick in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals against USF on Nov. 1. Junior Lauren Fowlkes is second on the team in goals (8) and points (19), and has registered three assists.
Only The Second Time In History • St. John's is making only its second appearance in program history in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals. The last time the Red Storm made a semifinal appearance was when it won the tournament in 1994.
All-Time In The BIG EAST Tourney • The Red Storm's 2009 appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament is its ninth in history and its fourth consecutive. The team captured the tournament championship during the 1994 campaign with a perfect 2-0 slate. All-time, the team has compiled a 4-7 mark in tournament action.
One Of Its Best Seasons In History • The 2009 women's soccer campaign can arguably be called one of the best in history for the Red Storm. Its 13 wins are the second most in program history, only one away from tying the record set in 1994. St. John's entered the NSCAA Top 25 Poll for the first time ever, eventually rising to No. 17 on Sept. 28. The team also received its highest ranking in history in the Soccer America Poll when it was listed as No. 11 on Oct. 5. With six BIG EAST wins and eight home victories, the Red Storm tied the school records it set in 2007. STJ has recorded nine shutouts, which tie for the second most in a season, and the team is only one away from tying the record it set last year.
Stat Of The Week • 15 of the Red Storm's 19 games have been decided by one goal.

Russell Breaks Red Storm Shutout Record • Goalie Kristin Russell recorded her 19th-career shutout against Georgetown on Nov. 1 to break the program record of 18 that was shared by Tina Fogg and Jaime Beran. Only in her sophomore campaign, Russell recorded her 21st career victory against the Hoyas, tying Carolyn Blohm for fourth all-time. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native is only two wins away from moving into a tie for second place in career victories.
Red Storm RPI Ranked No. 34 • In the latest NCAA RPI report released on Nov. 2, the Red Storm is ranked No. 34. St. John's RPI is the fifth highest among all BIG EAST schools, trailing only Notre Dame, West Virginia, Connecticut and Marquette.
STJ Ranked Among The Best • St. John's is ranked in the top 40 among all Division I schools in three categories through Nov. 1 games. The Red Storm is listed at No. 9 with a save percentage of 0.879, and is No. 15 with a goals against average of 0.562. With a winning percentage of .711, STJ has the 36th best mark in the nation.
• Individually, Russell is listed in the top 20 in two categories. The goalie is ranked 14th with a 0.875 save percentage and is 18th with a 0.562 goals against average.
