Red Storm Hosts Georgetown In BIG EAST Quarterfinal Action St. John's earned No. 2 seed in Ameri

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's soccer team earned the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST American Division and will host No 3 National Division seed Georgetown in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals held at Belson Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m.

• The winner of the contest will advance to the semifinals held in Storrs, Conn. The victor of the STJ-GU match will face the winner of the Notre Dame vs. DePaul/USF semifinal contest.

• RedStormSports.com will stream the game through StormTracker All-Access. The contest will have a live video and audio broadcast. Fans can access the feature by going to RedStormSports.com, clicking on the All-Access button and signing up for the service. The All-Access subscription is $9.95 a month or $79.95 for the year. There will also be live stats available that can be accessed on RedStormSports.com.

A Look At The Competition • St. John's and Georgetown meet for the 11th time in history. The Hoyas hold the slight edge in the series, 5-4-1, including winning last year's regular-season contest, 1-0, in Washington, D.C. St. John's has outscored GU 20-16 in the series, and the last four meetings have been decided by one goal

• The Hoyas enter the game with a 12-5-2, 6-4-1 BIG EAST slate. Before dropping their last two contests, the Hoyas had won four straight and six of seven. GU has fared better at home than on the road, compiling a 8-2-0 slate at home and a 2-3-2 mark on the road. Ingrid Wells leads the Hoyas with 25 points, recording seven goals and a team-high 11 assists. Sara Jordan paces the squad with eight goals. On the year, Georgetown has scored 45 goals, while holding its opponents to 18 goals.

All-Time In The BIG EAST Tourney • The Red Storm is making its ninth appearance in the BIG EAST Championship and its fourth straight. The team captured the tournament championship during the 1994 campaign with a perfect 2-0 slate.

Weekend Recap • The Red Storm posted a 1-1 slate over the weekend, recording a 1-0 double-overtime win against USF on Oct. 23 and losing a close contest to Marquette, 1-0, on Oct. 25 in the BIG EAST American Division title game.

• Courtney Lane scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 102nd minute to lift St. John's to a 1-0 victory over USF. With the win, the Red Storm jumped to the No. 2 spot in the BIG EAST American Division standings. The game also marked an accomplishment for sophomore goalie Kristin Russell, as she tied the Red Storm shutout record with 18. Russell had another strong performance in net for St. John's, making four saves and cutting off numerous scoring opportunities by coming out of the box.

• The Golden Eagles scored in the 86th minute to clinch the division title. Both teams surged on offense in the contest, combining for 31 shots in the game, including 16 on goal. Six Red Storm players tallied shots in the game. Lane led the way with five shots, four of which were on goal. Russell had a strong performance in net, facing 20 Golden Eagle shots and making nine saves.

Close To Setting Program Records • The St. John's women's soccer team is close to tying two program records. The Red Storm has 12 victories in 2009 and is two shy of tying the record of 14 set in 1994. With seven home victories, STJ is only one away from tying the record of eight set in 2007.

Did You Know... • In 2009, 14 of the Red Storm's 18 games have been decided by one goal.

STJ Ranked Among The Best • St. John's is ranked in the top 20 among all Division I schools in two categories through Oct. 25 games. The Red Storm is listed at No. 15 with a save percentage of 0.872, and is No. 17 with a goals against average of 0.596.

• Individually, Russell is listed in two categories. The goalie is ranked 19th with a 0.867 save percentage and is 22nd with a 0.596 goals against average.
