QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's soccer player Kristin Russell was named to the BIG EAST honor roll, as announced by the league Monday.
Russell led the Red Storm to a key victory over USF on Friday, recording the shutout win, 1-0, over the Bulls in double overtime. With the shutout, she tied the career program record with 18. The sophomore made four saves in 102 minutes of play, as the Red Storm surged ahead of the Bulls in the BIG EAST American standings. On Sunday, Russell held her team in the game until the very end, making nine saves on 20 shots faced, while allowing only one goal.
Enjoying one of its best seasons in history, Russell helped the Red Storm finish the regular season with a 12-5-1, 6-4-1 BIG EAST record. St. John's clinched a first-round bye in the 2009 BIG EAST Tournament by earning the No. 2 seed in the American Division, and will host Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Belson Stadium.
