In the game’s 21st minute, midfielder Laura Berbert fired a rocket of a shot which was batted away by a diving St. John’s goalkeeper Kristin Russell. Freshman Lyndsay Pierson hit a shot in the middle of the field which was stopped by Russell in the 59th minute. And with less than two minutes to go in the game, Junior Liz Carroll dribbled all the way down the middle of the field and fired a shot in which Russell dove and made the stop to secure the win for the Red Storm.
St. John’s outshot Pitt 16-11. Pitt finished with four shots on goal to the Red Storm’s seven.
