With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 0-4-0 in BIG EAST Conference play and 3-7-0 overall, while the nationally ranked Red Storm improved to 3-0-1 in the league and 9-1-1 overall.

After more than 89 minutes of scoreless soccer, St. John's broke through at 89:19 on the game clock as Courtney Lane connected from the left side of the goal near the top of the box for her first goal of the season and the game-winner. The Cardinals had a corner kick in the final seconds but were unable to get a final shot on-goal against the Red Storm.

"I feel terrible that our players poured their hearts into this match and fell just short of getting a result," said Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "St. John's is a very talented team and it was a night of very good soccer from both teams. The effort that this team shows and the belief that all of us have in this group will eventually lead us to get the results that we know we're capable of getting."

St. John's finished the game with a 16-13 advantage in shots, including a narrow 7-5 edge on shots on-goal, while corner kicks were even at 2-2. Senior Katie Owen and freshmanCourtney Holtz led the Cards with three shots each in the game, and Jen Leaverton led the Red Storm with five shots.

In goal, Louisville freshman Taylor Vancil finished with a career best six saves, while Kristin Russell finished with five saves for the Red Storm, which extended their unbeaten streak to seven games overall with the win.

The two teams played a scoreless first half of soccer with Louisville holding a 9-6 advantage on shots and a 1-0 edge on corner kicks during the first 45 minutes. Owen and Holtz led the Cards with two shots each during the first half.
