No. 12/17 Red Storm Hosts Louisville And Cincinnati This Weekend

A Look At The Competition • St. John's and Louisville meet for the second time in history. The Cardinals won the first contest, 2-1, at home on Sept. 29, 2006. Louisville is currently on a two-game losing streak and has lost four of its last five games. Lindsay Boling leads the Cardinal offense with two goals, while Courtney Holtz has added one goal and two assists.

• The Red Storm and Bearcats face off for the third time, with the series tied at 1-1. Both teams have won on the road in the series, and each game has ended with a final score of 1-0. Cincinnati will face Syracuse on Friday night before taking on STJ on Sunday. The Bearcats rattled off a four-game winning streak before losing its last two contests to Notre Dame and DePaul. Emily Hebbeler leads the team with five goals and an assist, while Julie Morrissey has contributed four goals and two assists.

Red Storm Ranked Among The Best • St. John's is ranked in the top 25 among all Division I schools in three categories through Sept. 27 games. The Red Storm is listed at No. 13 with a 0.850 winning percentage, which is the highest among all BIG EAST schools. STJ's save percentage of 0.875 is the 15th highest in the nation, while its goals against average of 0.581 is the 25th best.

Individually, Kristin Russell is listed in two categories. The goalie is ranked 22nd with a 0.870 save percentage and is 27th with a 0.581 goals against average. C.J. Ludemann is ranked in assists per game, ranking No. 51 with a 0.5 average.

Highest Rankings In History • After posting a 1-0-1 record and extending its unbeaten streak to six games, St. John's climbed to No. 12 in the Soccer America Top 25 Poll and to No. 17 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 Poll this week. The rankings are the highest in program history for the Red Storm, who was ranked 17th by Soccer America and 23rd by the NSCAA last week. In the Soccer America Poll, St. John's is one of four BIG EAST teams represented and has the second-highest ranking among league schools with Notre Dame only four spots higher at No. 8. In the NSCAA poll, three BIG EAST schools are represented.

Russell Continues To Move Up Charts • Russell entered the 2009 campaign with 10 shutouts, ranking sixth all-time in STJ history. With five shutouts in 2009, she moved into sole possession of the No. 4 spot with 15. Russell is only one away from moving into a tie for third and is only three away from tying for No. 1 all-time.

Only The Third Time In History • The Red Storm defeated UConn for only the third time in history when Amanda Pasciolla scored the golden goal in the 96th minute to lift STJ to the 1-0 win on Sept. 24. The victory is the second in three years for the Red Storm, with both wins coming in overtime. The Red Storm's first win in history over the Huskies came on Nov. 5, 1994, a 1-0 victory in the BIG EAST semifinals.
