Women's Soccer Faces Bearcats On Thursday In BIG EAST Championship First Round

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's soccer team is set to host No. 5 National Division seed Cincinnati at Belson Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.

• RedStormSports.com will stream the game through StormTracker All-Access presented by Allstate. The contest will have a live video and audio broadcast, which will feature a three-camera setup, a scoreboard and advanced production capabilities. Fans can access the feature by going to RedStormSports.com, clicking on the All-Access button and signing up for the service. The All-Access subscription is $9.95 a month or $79.95 for the year. There will also be live stats for the contest that can be accessed for free.

• The winner of the game will advance to face No. 1 seed Notre Dame on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in Notre Dame, Ind.

• St. John's clinched the No. 4 spot thanks to a key 2-1 win over Providence on Friday and a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Connecticut on Sunday. The berth to the BIG EAST Tournament is the third-straight for the Red Storm and the seventh all-time.

A Look At The Competition • Cincinnati earned its first-ever BIG EAST Championship berth thanks to a 9-6-3, 5-3-3 BIG EAST slate. The 2008 campaign is the best season for the Bearcats since 2002, when they finished 17-4-3 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

• The Bearcats closed the season strong, posting a 4-1-2 slate through its last seven games. Julie Morrissey leads the way for UC with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Kristin May is second with 13 points, scoring five goals and assisting on three others. Overall, UC has had nine different players score at least one goal. On the defensive side, Andrea Kaminski has played in all 18 games for the Bearcats in net and has allowed 24 goals in 1656:04 minutes played. She has made 74 saves for a .755 save percentage and had registered three shutouts.

Series History • Cincinnati and St. John's have only faced each other once all-time, with the Red Storm coming away with the shutout, 1-0, victory on Oct. 1, 2006, in Cincinnati.

All-Time In The BIG EAST Tourney • The Red Storm is making its eighth appearance in the BIG EAST Championship and its third straight. The team captured the tournament championship during the 1994 campaign with a perfect 2-0 slate. All-time the team has compiled a 3-6 slate. Last season, St. John's and Rutgers tied in the first round at Belson Stadium, but the Scarlet Knights advanced after winning the shootout.

St. John's Ranked Among The Best • The St. John's defense has been strong this season, allowing only 11 goals while posting 10 shutouts in 18 games. The Red Storm has posted a .891 save percentage to rank fifth in the country. The team also posted a .556 shutout percentage to rank 20th in the country, and its .571 goals against average is the 16th-best average among Division I programs.

Russell Making A Name For Herself • Through Oct. 26 games, freshman goalkeeper Kristin Russell is ranked No. 3 in the nation in save percentage and No. 6 in goals against average. During that time, Russell has only allowed seven goals in 17 games, tallying a .409 goals against average and a save percentage of .917.
